The inspiration for the Diva pendant lamp came from the designer's fascination with modern statuary and natural swirls found in rivers. Additionally, the works of renowned architect Santiago Calatrava influenced the layout of the anodized aluminum poles on the outer shade. This combination of influences resulted in a design that is both elegant and visually striking.
What sets the Diva pendant lamp apart from others is its ability to be a compelling and prominent element of any room. The anodized aluminum poles create ever-changing shades depending on the lighting conditions, adding a dynamic element to the design. The aim of the project was to create a lamp that is not just a functional lighting fixture, but also a piece of art that enhances the overall aesthetic of the space.
The Diva pendant lamp is made using a combination of 3D printing technology and traditional craftsmanship. The form of the lamp is defined by the precisely arranged anodized aluminum poles, which are fixed in a 3D printed ring. The integrated internal white glass follows the main shade of the poles and provides stray light sideways, while the concentrated light is directed downwards. The lamp is compatible with a variety of E27 LED bulbs with different color temperatures.
Available in two sizes, the Diva pendant lamp offers options to suit different spaces. The small size measures 740mm in height and 440mm in diameter, weighing approximately 3kg. The large size is 950mm in height and 560mm in diameter, weighing around 4.5kg. The metal parts of the lamp are available in pearl, almond, or grey colors, while the ring is black. The light source is an E27 LED bulb with a maximum power of 12W.
The Diva pendant lamp is part of a new lamp family that offers a wide variety of options to create a unique atmosphere. It can be used as a single unit or combined with other types of lamps to achieve the desired lighting effect.
The development of the Diva pendant lamp was a result of extensive research and experimentation. The designer constructed diverse prototypes to achieve the best possible look and conducted experiments with selective laser sintering technology to ensure the desired quality and perfect assembly tolerances for manufacturing.
One of the main challenges during the development process was to maintain the clearness of the design while hiding all visible fastening elements. The lamp was designed to be assembled after delivery, allowing for a smaller package size for shipping. This required the invention of an ingenious yet simple solution to completely hide the fastening elements for the poles.
The Diva pendant lamp, designed by Daniel Mato, is a testament to the fusion of art, architecture, and technology. Its elegant and unique design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2018. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills and contribute to quality of life improvements.
